BRIEF: RECALL: Tops removing Simply Potatoes products from shelves

Feb 24, 2009 (Lockport Union-Sun & Journal - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- TOMA | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- As part of a manufacturer's voluntary recall issued by Northern Star Co., Tops Markets has removed from its shelves three Simply Potatoes products: Shredded Hash Browns, Southwest Style Hash Browns and Red Potato Wedges.

The products were recalled after samples at the Minnesota Department of Agriculture tested positive for listeria monocytogenes bacteria. The company issued a consumer advisory for products with "use by" dates of March 29 to April 3.

The following brand, products and UPC codes have been removed from Tops shelves: Simply Potatoes Shredded Hash Browns, 20 ounces, 2016922233; Simply Potatoes Southwest Style Hash browns, 20 ounces, 2016922236; and Simply Potatoes Red Potato Wedges, 20 ounces, 2016922238.

The company said there have been no reported illnesses. Customer inquiries for Northern Star can be directed to (800) 228-8015. Customers who have purchased and of these products may return them to Tops Markets for a full refund.
