Little more than a year ago, Taiwan's ASUSTek Computer Inc.,
owner of the ASUS brand, launched the world's first Eee PC, a miniature
notebook computer with wireless internet connectivity and other
consumer-oriented features. Last year, the Eee PC became one of the hit
products in the PC business. Following ASUSTek's lead, the world's
leading vendors have rushed to offer similar products.
The Eee PC is helping to narrow the digital divide. In line with the One
Laptop Per Child (OLPC) initiative to bring affordable computers to
underprivileged children in less developed countries, Taiwan companies
have led the global industry by offering low-cost, energy-efficient
solutions.
Taiwan companies account for about 90 percent of the world's notebook PC
production, and many of these companies manufacture products under
contact for the world's largest brands in the business.
Some of the companies at the "Bringing Innovations to the World"
event are leaders as well.
A-DATA is the world's second-largest vendor of memory modules, AIPTEK
is an industry leader in small digital video cameras, KYE (Genius
brand) is one of the world's largest makers of PC peripherals, and ZyXEL
is a leading manufacturer of networking equipment.
At CeBIT this year, visitors can see 78 outstanding products showcased
in the Taiwan Excellence Pavilion at Hall 20 / Stand C02.
Many of these products won iF Design Awards in 2009.
Products at the Taiwan Excellence Pavilion includes a large screen
Skype-certified videophone from ASUS and a number of mobile
phones that combine PDA and GPS functions.
Also at the Pavilion, HTC, one of the world's leading mobile
phone makers, will showcase the latest version of its Touch Diamond
smartphones.
Optoma Corporation will present its PK101 Pico Pocket Projector.
The PK101 is among the world's first pocket-sized projectors and
connects to iPods, mobile phones and other portable devices to display
presentations, photos, videos and websites on the go and anywhere with
just a few simple connections.
Lei Yueh Enterprise Co. will showcase a prize-winning LED glass
brick. The product, which won a red dot best-of-the-best award, can be
used as part of an architectural design incorporating small
light-emitting diodes that emit light in different colors.
Shuttle Inc. will demonstrate an all-in-one PC with innovative
touch screen functions.
These are only a few examples of the excellent products coming from
Taiwan this year.
Taiwan companies are among the world's leaders in offering products that
save energy, reduce pollution and help keep people fit. It has some of
the world's largest companies making green products such as bicycles,
energy saving lights and solar cells to name a few. The Taiwan
government is supporting this effort as part of its goal of sustainable
development for businesses.
