Chesapeake to hold public meeting
CHK | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Chesapeake Energy Corp. is holding a public meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 5, at the Athens High School to talk about drilling operations in Bradford County.
Brian Grove, director of corporate development, said that Chesapeake usually tries to hold a public meeting in areas where it is setting up substantial operations.
"Chesapeake is committed to keeping the public as informed as we possibly can," Grove said. "We want to give everyone an update to where we are as a company."
Chesapeake is the largest leaseholder in the Marcellus Shale, along with being the largest natural gas producer in the nation.
There is usually a broad range of questions that come up at the meetings, Grove said, and he said they usually address how many rigs are in the area, what to expect in 2009, and issues with water, traffic and "things we do to mitigate the impact."
At the meeting, he said representatives from Chesapeake will give a presentation to show an overview of what the company expects for 2009, and it will also answer basic questions about the drilling process before having a question-and-answer session.
Chesapeake recently held a similar meeting with public officials at the end of January, Grove said. Much of the same information will be given at this upcoming meeting, though with some updates, he said.
"We want to be open and share information," he said. "The more informed folks are, the more comfortable they are with (the) process."
