The division, Olympus Imaging America, is grappling with a downturn in consumer spending and changes in electronics distribution as retailers retrench, said Elizabeth Sullivan, executive director of corporate communications for the company.
The restructuring primarily affected those in sales and sales support positions, including some working at Olympus headquarters in Center Valley, Sullivan said.
The company is not disclosing the number of positions it eliminated, but the reduction does not "materially change" the 835 people who were working for Olympus in Center Valley at the beginning of the year, Sullivan said.
