Tokyu Land Corp. (TSE:8815) plans to install Low-E insulated windows, water-saving toilets and other features in some 1,000 to 1,500 condominiums to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon footprint by 20-30 per cent.
Mitsubishi Estate Co. (TSE:8802) has begun wrapping the concrete exteriors of its buildings with insulating sheet -- which can improve a building's heat-retaining properties by 5-10 degrees C.
Mitsui Fudosan Co. (TSE:8801) subsidiary Mitsui Fudosan Residential Co. and Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TSE:9501) have developed a digital display for condominiums that shows the amount of gas and electricity being consumed and converts the numbers into values for carbon emissions. This provides a way for people to quantitatively track their energy choices and can help reduce energy consumption by 5-15 per cent. Mitsui Fudosan plans to install this display in condominiums primarily in central Tokyo.
