Controller-Less Wireless LAN Architecture Drives Cost Down
Aerohive's innovative cooperative control wireless LANs eliminate the need for costly wireless controllers by distributing the control functionality and data forwarding to every Aerohive access point (HiveAP). Aerohive's architecture is especially advantageous to enterprises that have many distributed locations. With a controller-based network, a controller would be required in each office, significantly increasing cost.

Cutting-Edge Security
The Aerohive wireless LAN replaces an assortment of SOHO-grade equipment that had minimal or no security. Aerohive HiveAPs meet Flow's now-stringent security requirements with 802.11i (WPA2), wireless intrusion detection system (IDS), 802.1X authentication, rogue AP detection, an integrated stateful firewall, and guest access control. In addition, HiveAPs integrate with Active Directory, ensuring a high level of security with EAP/TLS authentication and AES encryption. Flow is also able to use EAP-PEAP / MS-CHAPv2 for casual, un-certificated users.
Ease of Deployment and Management with HiveManager
Flow has already deployed HiveAPs in its Kent, Wash. headquarters and in offices in Jeffersonville, Ind.; Bretten, Germany; Hsinchu, Taiwan; and Nagoya, Japan. Deployment is also underway at 15 additional offices in Europe, Asia, and South America. The deployment has been simple and trouble-free. The HiveAPs are configured at the company's headquarters and shipped to the remote offices. Once connected, they are centrally monitored and managed from a single HiveManager console at the headquarters.
In the future, the Aerohive wireless LAN will enable factory-floor personnel with hand-held bar-code scanners to access and update inventory data in real time. The company also intends to deploy voice over wireless LAN (VoWLAN), which will benefit from the Aerohive architecture's low latency and jitter.
