Cable and Wireless appoints non-executive director

Mar 11, 2009 (Datamonitor via COMTEX) -- BTIHF | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Cable and Wireless, a provider of supplier of internet, data and voice solutions, has appointed John Barton to its board as a non-executive director.

Mr Barton will join the audit and remuneration committees. He is chairman of Next and Brit Insurance Holdings. He is also a non-executive director of WH Smith.

Agnes Touraine will step down as a non-executive director of Cable & Wireless immediately following the May 19, 2009 board meeting due to an increase in her other commitments. Ms Touraine joined the board in January 2005 and is a member of the audit and remuneration committees.

Richard Lapthorne, chairman of Cable & Wireless said: "The board is pleased to welcome John, with his breadth of board-level experience. He will be a valuable addition to the board. On behalf of the board and our shareholders, I would like to thank Agnes for her valuable contribution to Cable & Wireless. She joined the board at a time when the company was going through a transformation and leaves a business that is performing strongly."
