HOUSTON, Mar 16, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- GEYI | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- "Energy Trading and Financial Crisis" is the focus of the 7th Annual Energy Trading and Marketing Conference at the C. T. Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston on March 19.

The UH-Global Energy Management Institute conference, always well-attended by energy industry leaders, is expected to be particularly critical this year given the magnitude of the world's financial crisis and the need for information sharing.

"In this period of unprecedented turmoil in the financial markets and the economy as a whole, it is especially important to hear the insights of a diverse group of knowledgeable market participants, and to learn their views on how this turmoil has impacted, and will continue to impact, energy trading," said Finance Professor Craig Pirrong, Conference Director and Director of Energy Markets for UH-GEMI.

"Every GEMI Energy Trading and Marketing Conference has tackled a timely issue, but this one is of particular importance to all energy market participants given the ongoing upheavals," he added.

Speakers include Sam Henry, President and CEO of SUEZ Energy North America, Inc.; George Baker, William and Jensen LLP; Dr. Robert Levin, Managing Director of Energy Research & Product Development, CME Group, Inc.; Mark Stultz, Vice President of Policy Management for NA Gas & Power, BP; and Jeff Sprecher, CEO, Intercontinental Exchange Holdings Inc.

The conference is from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Elizabeth Rockwell Pavilion on the second floor of M.D. Anderson Library on the UH campus.
