The growth of business search concurs with the boom of the B2B e-commerce market focused on midsize and small companies. Alibaba.com was the bellwether in the niche in terms of the number of registered users, far higher than other third-party B2B e-commerce peers, according to a data report by the end of December 2006.
By then, there had been a total of 8.82 million midsize and small companies using third-party e-commerce websites in China. Meanwhile, Alibaba.com had had a B2B registered user base of 19.76 million, HC International Inc. (SEHK: 8292) 3 million, and Global Sources 150,000. The other peers had had about 1.7 million registered users.
