Mar 26, 2009 (DMEUROPE via COMTEX) --
VOD | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- The German mobile services market reached a value of EUR 19.9 billion
in 2008, down 0.6 percent from 2007, according to a report from
Telecompaper. The annual growth of EUR 438 million in non-voice service
revenues (messaging and data) was not able to fully compensate the
continuous pressure on voice service revenues. Fourth-quarter service
revenues showed a slower seasonal decrease of 2.1 percent. Compared to
the same quarter last year, services revenues showed an increase of 0.9
percent, mainly due to growth in non-voice revenues. Vodafone and
T-Mobile remain in control of the market, with 70 percent of total
service revenues over the last two years. E-Plus outperformed the
market last year, mainly in the prepaid segment, helping to increase
its overall market share by 1.0 percent to 15.1 percent. Compared to
2007, Vodafone's market share declined by 0.5 percent to 35.2 percent,
while T-Mobile only dropped 0.3 percent to 35.4 percent. O2 dropped to
fourth place with a 0.1 percent decrease to a 14.4 percent market
share. In terms of mobile subscribers, the German market increased by
1.2 million in the last quarter and by 10 million for the full year, to
a total 107 million customers. Telecompaper estimates 2009 service
revenues for the German market to come in flat to slightly lower. The
short-term negative outlook for the overall economy is not expected to
have a large impact on mobile adoption, as mobile is seen more and more
as a commodity product, according to the market researcher.
