Mar 27, 2009 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- SFNT | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- SafeNet, Inc., a developer and provider of information security offerings, announced the launch of ProtectDrive 9.0 full disk and removable media encryption, now with RapidRecovery technology.

With ProtectDrive RapidRecovery, the company noted, users can have critical data recovered from corrupted systems, typically in less than five minutes, reducing downtime and lost revenue.

The recovery of files from encrypted disks can be a slow process due to the time required to decrypt a hard drive. With ProtectDrive RapidRecovery, system files and other information can be recovered almost immediately. This allows help desks to meet their Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and users to access their data.

ProtectDrive RapidRecovery's hard drive encryption technology encrypts the entire hard drive of a laptop, workstation, or server to protect against disclosure of information in case of theft or accidental loss of the hardware device. Pre-boot authentication prevents unauthorized users from compromising the operating system to access sensitive information. It can be deployed and managed directly using Microsoft Active Directory (AD).

"Current trends in the security industry show that the long wait time to recover encrypted material is a hindrance for companies. The inability to access sensitive data wastes both time and money," said Derek Tumulak, VP, product management, SafeNet. "ProtectDrive RapidRecovery solves this crucial problem by decrypting information and restoring a system within minutes."

ProtectDrive is a full-disk encryption solution that is part of an Enterprise Data Protection suite that protects not only endpoint devices, but data throughout the enterprise. ProtectDrive encrypts the entire hard drive of laptops, workstations, and servers, as well as removable media, such as USB flash drives, in order to protect data in cases of theft or loss of hardware, the company noted in a release.
