The company has leased a 86,550-square-foot facility in the Verde Binational Park and has already hired about 30 workers.
District manager Jose Molina said the work force for the facility has already been hired, but that the company is "always interviewing," and anyone who wants information about applying for a job can call the El Paso office at (915) 771-6400.
Molina said the move has increased the company's presence in the region to four buildings and about 120 employees.
"We do logistics: distributing, freight forwarding, full service," Molina said.
He said the company has several clients in Juarez and the new Santa Teresa facility will help it service those clients.
Expeditors reports on its Web site, www.expeditors.com, that its services include vendor consolidation, air and ocean freight forwarding, customs brokerage, insurance, ocean consolidation, distribution and value-added services.
Mesilla Valley Economic Development Alliance President and CEO Davin Lopez said the facility will be helping to handle logistic needs for Foxconn, a Taiwan-based electronics company that is building a factory just across the border from Santa Teresa.
"It is one of our first opportunistic wins (as a result of Foxconn)," Lopez said of the addition of the Expeditors International
facility.
The state's Economic Development Department reports that it, along with its Office of Mexican Affairs, MVEDA and the New Mexico Partnership, worked closely with Expeditors executives during the past eight months to facilitate the project.
"This proves that even in uncertain economic times, companies see the value of establishing operations in New Mexico in order to take advantage of the state's superior business climate," said Economic Development Secretary Fred Mondragon.
"This is a big win for southern New Mexico," said Clark Krause, president and CEO of the New Mexico Partnership. "Expeditors will bring valuable logistical services that will add to the region's supplier base."
Molina said employees for the Santa Teresa facility are currently training. He expects the facility to be operational as soon as April 6.
Expeditors has 170 offices and 12 international service centers on six continents.
