Talks between China Unicom and Apple Suspended
CHUFF | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Talks between China Unicom and Apple to introduce iPhone into China came to a halt as Apple was said to have asked the Chinese telecoms carrier to stand costs of building Apple special stores in this country after China Unicom agreed on a profit-sharing plan proposed by Apple.
Telecoms analysts point out that the introduction of iPhone will not change China's 3G industry. Results of the competition among China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom for the 3G market will not come out until 2010.
When they are asked about the issue, executives at China Unicom say that the negotiations are ongoing but they have no idea about the specific details.
China Unicom is scheduled to kick off its 3G services on May 17 and it hopes to close the deal with Apple before April 15, according to some reports. Now the telecoms carrier has been advertising its upcoming 3G services nationwide.
