GREENSBORO, N.C., April 7, 2009 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- SKT | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Helping the environment has become an important issue for millions of Americans. More and more families are now taking the steps necessary to try to make the world a better place to live, for themselves and their children. From recycling household products and driving energy efficient cars, to conserving our water supply and other natural resources, consumers are making the personal commitment and choices necessary to do what they can to help our planet.

This spring, Tanger Outlet Centers is joining the movement to help make our world cleaner and healthier. The TangerStyle for a Greener World campaign which is taking place April 1-May 17, 2009 at many Tanger Outlet Centers across America, will present a variety of onsite, eco-themed promotions as well as special community events centered around Earth Day 2009 (April 22nd). Many of Tanger's brand name retailers are also supporting the campaign by highlighting earth-friendly merchandise in their stores.

Some of the community events taking place at Tanger centers include:

In Tilton, New Hampshire, the Tanger Outlet Center is partnering with four area school districts on a contest that challenges elementary & high school students to combine their classroom knowledge, vision and artistic ability to create a sculpture, table top display or painting that addresses the question - How Can We Protect The Earth? Prizes will be awarded and all entries will be placed on public display at the Tanger center on Saturday, April 25th. The Tanger Outlet Center in Gonzales, Louisiana is joining with the River Region Art Association and Harry and David to sponsor "a Greener World Art Show," a community-wide art competition March 27th -April 3rd. Children and adults can submit a drawing or painting that focuses on an eco-friendly, nature theme. Children can also lend their artistic talents to a nature-themed mural which is being painted at the center. The Tanger center in Barstow, California is inviting local elementary students to use their creativity to design and build a robot, space ship or any other futuristic item they can imagine, using only recyclable materials. The students' projects will be displayed April 10-May 17 in the California Welcome Center located at the Tanger Outlet Center. Across the country, millions of obsolete computers end up in our landfills. The Tanger Outlet Centers in Branson, Missouri; Kittery, Maine and Hilton Head, South Carolina are spearheading local drives to collect these old computers. The computers collected at Tanger (many of which are still useable) will be given to students or others in need, or will be properly recycled. In honor of Earth Day and Arbor Day, Tanger Outlets at the Arches in Deer Park, New York will be giving away 1,000 tree seedlings to area elementary school students to plant. These and many other community Earth Day programs will be taking place at Tanger centers this spring.

"With Tanger Outlet Centers across the country serving as such important community gathering places, we have a tremendous opportunity to create awareness with millions of spring shoppers about the value of going green," stated Steven B. Tanger, President and Chief Executive Officer of Tanger Factory Outlet Centers, Inc. "Our goal is to provide useful information that will help make the world around us better for everyone," added Tanger.
