The tournament will occur from March 27 to July 10, with a possible extension to July 24, depending on how many bowlers sign up for the annual event, Jack Mordini, vice president of tournaments/events for the bowling congress, announced during an El Paso news conference Tuesday.
Mordini came to El Paso on Tuesday to promote the event, which has been billed as the largest single sporting event the city has ever hosted.
The more than three month event is expected to bring $50 million to $60 million into the El Paso economy through hotels, restaurants, stores and other businesses, Mordini said.
The bowling congress will spend about $1 million to convert the El Paso convention center into a 48-lane bowling alley -- the first time the women's tournament has been held in a convention center, Mordini said.
"El Paso, the women are coming, be prepared for them," Mordini said.
