Hearst-Argyle Television Stations Earn 18 Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards

NEW YORK, April 9, 2009 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- HTV | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Eleven Hearst-Argyle Television, Inc. stations have been honored with a total of 18 regional Edward R. Murrow Awards, given by the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA).

Two of the stations -- KCCI-TV, Des Moines, and WMUR-TV, Manchester, N.H. -- were honored with Overall Excellence recognition, in part for their in-depth coverage of the presidential campaigns in their respective states. Hearst-Argyle and its stations also recently were honored with a Peabody Award and a fifth consecutive USC Walter Cronkite Award for political coverage.

KCCI, WMUR and the other Hearst-Argyle recipients also were recognized in part for vital coverage of major weather events impacting their regions.

The Hearst-Argyle honorees, and their categories of recognition, in this year's regional Edward R. Murrow Award competitions are as follows:

    WCVB-TV, Boston:          Continuing Coverage
    WMTW-TV, Portland, ME:    Breaking News, Continuing Coverage
    WTAE-TV, Pittsburgh:      Hard News Feature
    WBAL Radio, Baltimore:    Continuing Coverage, Sports Reporting

Recipients of regional Murrow Awards are nominees for national awards, to be presented at the annual Murrow Awards dinner in New York in October.
