The world's second-largest maker of LCDs started negotiating with Sony earlier this year on providing the latter with LCD panels for 32-, 37- and 42-inch televisions, according to the sources.
The talks were currently in the early stage and were expected to last up to one year, the sources said.
Sony has been buying 60 per cent of its television panels from S-LCD Corp. - its joint venture with Samsung Electronics Co. (KSE:005930) - while Taiwanese manufacturers, including AU Optronics Corp., have been supplying the rest of panels.
