TRIN | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Schaumburg-based Jewels by Park Lane reports March 2009 sales exceeded last years same month sales by more than 10 percent. Yearly sales for 2008 were the largest in the companys 53-year history. All of this has happened while many other companies have been cutting back on production and turning to layoffs. Meanwhile, Jewels by Park Lane is busy expanding its home based business opportunities to meet a growing demand.

The overall retail industry sales figures for March fell 1.8 percent according to Thomson Reuters. This downward trend continued an earlier decline reported in February. Although most retailers put some blame for declining sales on the change of the Easter selling season from March to April in 2009, many tried to balance that shift by offering special promotions. Jewels by Park Lane recognized the need to be proactive rather than reactive to this sales trend.

Jewels by Park Lane, selling fashion jewelry via home parties, credits its record March sales numbers on offering free customer bonus items and hostess double credit specials beyond the regular monthly programs that helped spike results in its home based businesses.

Hostesses really tried to go out and get at least ten orders to take advantage of the double credit. It was like a Park Lane stimulus package. It really excited them, says Diane Rohr, company vice president in Louisiana.

"Jewels by Park Lane already has the most generous hostess program in the industry; we normally offer $200 to $500 in free merchandise to our hostesses. But for March we were offering double that amount and found it so successful that we are continuing to offer it for April, says company VP Arthur Levin III.

While other companies have been cutting back benefits, Park Lane has recognized the importance of offering its representatives, customers, and hostesses more opportunities to work at home. In this difficult economic environment, adding more rewards and opportunities is definitely unusual for any business.
