Company spokeswoman Karen Howard said the company is evaluating its manufacturing operations "for possible consolidation of our manufacturing footprint." Howard said the studies are still ongoing, but could lead to a facility closure.
The company manufactures shackles and hoists for rigging of heavy loads at its Midland Forge division in Cedar Rapids. Its Dixie Industries unit in Chattanooga, Tenn., makes custom steel forgings and closed die forgings, according to the company's Web site.
Howard said the company has been in discussion with its Cedar Rapids union on options for manufacturing, but would not elaborate. She declined to say whether the Cedar Rapids facility would be closed.
Machinists Local 831 represents the plant's workers. Business Representative Joe Ironside was not immediately available for comment.
The plant at 101 50th Ave. SW currently employs about 150 people, a number that is down due to layoffs.
