FDX | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- The International Brotherhood of Teamsters said Wednesday it will press on with efforts to represent FedEx Ground drivers after an appeals court ruling Tuesday favored the company.

Vice president Ken Hall said in a statement the union was disappointed by the U.S. Court of Appeals D.C. Circuit ruling that FedEx Ground drivers were properly classified as independent contractors, not employees.

"We are confident that the decision will not survive review by the full court or by the U.S. Supreme Court," the statement said. "The Teamsters' fight on behalf of these workers will not stop."

The case centers on Teamsters efforts to organize FedEx Ground drivers in Massachusetts. After the National Labor Relations Board sided with the union, FedEx filed a challenge in the appeals court, and the Teamsters joined the case. FedEx has been under legal fire around the country over the worker classification issue.

The Teamsters' statement pointed out that the appeals court's 2-1 ruling included a dissenting view that the drivers are employees.
