Following the deal, Amazon has strengthened its positions on the rapidly expanding market for electronic books.
Lexcycle produces the e-book reading application Stanza, used by more than 1.5 million people worldwide, mainly for Apple iPhones for reading purposes. The transaction will give Amazon access to an application that supports formats which its own e-reader Kindle does not.
