Equinox said it is "confident that the matter can be resolved in a reasonable manner."
The dispute is over electricity charges believed by Zesco to be incurred by Equinox since late 2007. The utility has claimed $9 million for the period up to Dec. 31, 2008, and had previously threatened to cut supplies to Equinox's Lumwana mine. This termination notice has since been withdrawn.
Equinox disputes the claim and has paid $2 million "whilst conducting negotiations in an effort to resolve the matter," it said.
