Here are details on how to make it happen:
Keep these tips in mind if you're out hunting for bargains at local yard sales:
_Start early for the best merchandise, but don't forget to return to a particularly good sale at the end. You might find a few things the homeowners are willing to get rid of for free.
_Bring small bills and change. Homeowners probably won't be able to break $50, or even $20, bills early in the day.
_Stick to a goal. Sure that 50-cent ceramic rabbit is cute, but do you need it? It's still wasted money if you're not buying with a purpose.
Now, onto lunch.
The restaurant chain T.G.I. Friday's is the latest eatery to promote a $5 meal menu. Some critics say that a sit-down restaurant will not be able to survive with this low pricing option, but, in the meantime, consumers can take advantage of the deal.
The menu includes regular-sized sandwiches and salads, including a steak sandwich that used to cost $11.75 and a pecan-crusted salad that previously cost $9.69.
Finish the day with a book.
Barnes and Noble recently launched its audiobook Web site, and it includes a few freebies.
Readers can download nine free short story titles, including "The Babysitters Code" by Laura Lippman and "Great Day" by Kurt Vonnegut.
The audiobook section also includes several "thrifty listens."
