ING Canada Inc. (IIC.T, C$36.32, -C$0.05, -0.1%) posted a first-quarter loss of 30 Canadian cents a share, hurt by a non-recurring investment loss, compared with a profit of 19 Canadian cents a year earlier. Net operating income was 58 Canadian cents, just ahead of the Thomson Reuters mean estimate.
Magellan Aerospace Corp. (MAL.T, C$1.55, -C$0.10, -6.1%) said first-quarter earnings jumped to 41 Canadian cents a share from 9 Canadian cents and revenue rose 11%. The company said it expects the positive sales trend in 2008 will be tempered in the aerospace industry in 2009.
Pan American Silver Corp. (PAAS, C$22.92, C$0.48, 2.1%) said first-quarter earnings plummeted to 8 cents a share from 38 cents, hurt by lower base metal and silver prices. Gold production reached a record level and silver production was higher.
RONA Inc. (RON.T, C$13.60, -C$1.02, -7.0%) has agreed to sell 11.6 million shares at C$12.90 each to raise C$150 million.
