Shanghai Multimedia Industry Association (SMIA) is one of the twelve trade associations that were established in Shanghai shortly after China's accession to the WTO. It is a non-profit social organization set up by enterprises, public institutions and individuals in Shanghai that are engaged in multimedia production, manufacturing, research and other related businesses. Though a latecomer, SMIA has been in regular contact with multimedia associations or societies across nearly ten countries in the world, and closely in touch with domestic groups in this field and the media. SMIA boasts a membership of over 220, covering local backbone enterprises in the fields of computer graphics, online games, digital film and animation, VOD, courseware development, and multimedia hardware. The association is also influential with various game companies as its members, including Activision Blizzard, Epic Games China, Take Two, 9you and The 9.
The Chief-secretary of SMIA Mr. Ming Haoxia has high hopes for this year's CGDC: "CGDC is an important and influential game technology conference in the world and this year, by scheduling alongside with ChinaJoy, it will have even bigger strategic significance. Since it was founded six years ago, the SMIA has been devoted to comprehensive service and support to our member companies. We believe that the strategic partnership with CGDC will lead to further cooperation between the two sides and contribute to the stability and development of the game industry. We will have further discussions with CGDC to see what we can do together to accelerate the development of China's game industry, especially in the face of the financial crisis".
The Vice Secretary-General of the Organizing Committee of CGDC also comments that "Our conference, which will be open on July 24, has its focus on China: providing technology and business services to the domestic game industry; moreover, the platform built on it is also open to the world. With the rapid growth of China's game industry, the Chinese game companies will have more and more of their own products and outsourcing will in turn become an important option for them. SMIA is a trade association of various game and multimedia companies in China, so by cooperating with them, we will have more players in the game, multimedia and outsourcing industries to get to know about CGDC and benefit from the huge opportunities in the Chinese market brought by attending CGDC. In fact, we will furnish convenience and discounts to all SMIA members and of course we'd like to welcome everyone in the industry to come to our conference and to find opportunities in the Chinese market."
Game companies in China and the world, we believe, will be the ones who benefit most from such long-term strategic partnerships between CGDC and renowned institutions and organizations in the game industry, like SMIA.
