SPRINGFIELD, Va., May 18, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- VSR | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Versar, Inc. (NYSE Amex: VSR | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) today announced that Dr. Ted Prociv, President and CEO of Versar, Inc. will chair the opening sessions of the 12th annual Chemical Weapons Demilitarization Conference (CWD 2009) to be held May 19, 2009 in Stratford-on-Avon, in the United Kingdom. The CWD Conference series is being co-sponsored this year by the United States Army's Chemical Materials Agency and the United Kingdom's Ministry of Defense as government sponsors, and SAIC and Versar, Inc. as industry sponsors. Prior to joining Versar in 1999, Dr. Prociv was Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army, responsible for the oversight of the entire U.S. chemical weapons destruction program, at that time a $14.9 billion effort. Previously, he was responsible for the oversight of all chemical and biological programs within the Office of the Secretary of Defense.

According to Dr. Prociv, "Versar continues to work on numerous projects involved with locating and disposing of such weapons in an environmentally safe and efficient manner. We believe that our work will result in the complete elimination of a weapon's system which has little use in today's strategic world but by its very existence can cause severe residual danger to the population in general. For this reason, Versar has volunteered to be a co-sponsor of the Annual Chemical Demilitarization Conference."

Dr. Prociv continues, "It is an honor to chair the opening sessions of the conference and introduce the international dignitaries who will present the official statements of their respective countries. Our ultimate goal of this conference is to promote international cooperation in accelerating the destruction of these dangerous weapons."

The CWD Conference series began as a forum dedicated to the cooperation of industry and government to present and discuss chemical weapon destruction capabilities, systems, and policy related issues in order to facilitate the destruction of the World's possessor nations' stockpiles of chemical weapons. The CWD venue affords a means of open discussions, presentations, and technical reviews for International efforts that are currently being employed to rid the world of these outdated and obsolete weapons of mass destruction in order to meet the provisions of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC).
