The global Internet giant has invited Edelman, a public relations service provider, to take charge of the publicizing plan of the R&D center. However, Alibaba has been responsible for Yahoo's activities in China for a long time.
In July 2008, Alibaba announced the operation of koubei.com, a daily life information website. From then on, the leading Chinese e-commerce company has been concentrating its efforts and money on the new business.
Tao Ran, director for public relations of Alibaba denies the guess, saying that Yahoo wants to make full use of China's talent resources through the R&D center, and the Yahoo brand in the country has been under the charge of Alibaba since 2005.
Four years ago, Yahoo got a 39% stake in Alibaba by offering USD 1 billion in cash and the total assets of China Yahoo (then Yahoo China). Since then, the Internet giant has remained the majority shareholder of Alibaba.
