"It is an honor to be elected to the prestigious ICSC Board of Trustees," said Steven B. Tanger. "I look forward to working closely with the other Trustees and the Membership during my term to help guide the International Council of Shopping Centers and the Shopping Center Industry towards a successful future".
As a member of the Board of Trustees, Mr. Tanger will utilize his nearly 40 years of expertise in the areas of real estate, finance and manufacturing to assist ICSC in the implementation of its mission statement, which is to provide educational programs and publications in all aspects of shopping center development, finance, management, marketing, and other specialized areas of professional interest; conduct meetings and other programs designed to promote the exchange of ideas among members; collect and disseminate information pertaining to the shopping center industry; develop and maintain professional certification programs to encourage high standards for shopping center professionals; and to advocate the interests of the shopping center industry to federal and state/provincial governments.
There are 52 voting Board of Trustee members, all with three-year terms, representing the 70,000 members of ICSC in over 90 countries. Trustees are not eligible to serve for more than six consecutive years.
Steven B. Tanger is a Director of Tanger Factory Outlet Centers, Inc. and was named President and Chief Executive Officer effective January 1, 2009. Previously, he served as President and Chief Operating Officer from 1995-2008 and Executive Vice President since joining the Company in January 1986. Mr. Tanger was formerly a member of the Urban Land Institute, the Real Estate Roundtable, Treasurer and Governor of the Harmonie Club of New York, on the Board of Governors of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts (NAREIT), and on the Board of Governors for the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) New York Chapter. A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Steven B. Tanger also completed courses as part of the Executive Program at the Stanford University School of Business.
