The Menomonee Falls firm said Wednesday that it has applied for the money under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the $787 billion economic stimulus package signed into law earlier this year.
ZBB manufactures zinc bromide batteries used in the transmission and distribution of electric power. It produces batteries in modules that can be configured to fit specific energy-storage needs.
The company now has a 75,000-square-foot factory. If it gets federal stimulus money, ZBB will build a $94 million, 363,000-square-foot plant. The firm estimates the project would create more than 500 jobs.
