The9 to Start Open Beta Test for Atlantica on June 3

NCTY | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- The9 Limited (Nasdaq: NCTY | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) gained a license for the operation of Atlantica in Mainland China and is to kick off its open beta test on June 3, 2009.

Atlantica is a 3D turn-based massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed by South Korean online game developer Ndoors.

The game, which hit the South Korean market in January 2008, has lured over 100 million players so far. It will be an important game of The9 in the first half of 2009.

Earlier, The9 lost its license for the operation of the blockbuster online game World of Warcraft (WoW) to Chinese Internet portal Netease.com.

After losing the operating right, The9 started seeking for successor of the masterpiece. Days ago, it was reported to join hands with Kingsoft Corporation Limited (SEHK: 3888) on the operation of JX3 Online.

JX3 Online is a heavyweight online game that Season Studio plans to release in July 2009 after five years of development.
