Teva resolves patent suit with Cadila Healthcare
CDLHF | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Israel-based generic drug firm Teva Pharmaceuticals has resolved its patent litigation with India-based Cadila Healthcare and its US subsidiary Zydus Pharmaceuticals regarding the process of making carvedilol, the key ingredient in Coreg, a beta blocker used to treat high blood pressure, reported Pharmabiz.
Pursuant to the terms of settlement, the US District Court of New Jersey has signed off the patent suit on May 13, 2009. The lawsuit was against alleged infringement of four US patents assigned to Teva, reported the news source.
According to media reports, Zydus filed a new drug master file with the FDA on a new process for manufacturing carvedilol, with Teva promising not to sue regarding the two US patents. Details of the settlement were, however, not disclosed.
Earlier, Teva signed similar patent suit settlements with Indian pharmaceutical firms Glenmark Pharmaceuticals, Ranbaxy Laboratories, Dr Reddy's Laboratories and USV for the same product.
