Have you always been the class clown? Are you known as "the funny one"? Always dreamt of quitting your day job and heading out on the road as a stand-up comic? Well, here's your chance as XM Canada, the country's leading satellite radio company, presents Canada's Next Top Comic.
Beginning June 1st, XM Canada is holding a nationwide contest at www.laughattackonline.com/cntc to find the funniest Canadian and give them a chance to perform LIVE at Global ComedyFest Vancouver. It's great if your mom thinks you're funny, but that won't be enough; fellow Canadians and a panel of XM Canada judges will have to agree.
"We Canadians aren't just 'nice', we're funny; REALLY funny," said, Richard Maxwell, Program Director, Comedy and one of the XM panel judges. "We've got a great talent pool in Canada and XM's nationwide contest gives every Canadian the opportunity to show just that; whether they are amateur comedians or Regular Joe's or Jane's looking for their big break."
Laugh Attack, XM Canada's channel dedicated to Canadian comedy, is asking Canadians to flex their funny bone and submit their clips online at www.laughattackonline.com/cntc. Each week XM will review the submissions and stream the best entries online for Canadians to vote on. After eight weeks, the contest will be narrowed down to eight finalists, at which point Canadians will have the final say as to who deserves the title of Canada's Next Top Comic.
The grand winner will win a spot to perform their stand-up LIVE at the XM Satellite Radio stage at Global ComedyFest Vancouver on Thursday, September 17th, 2009. The winner will also receive a cash prize of $2,000, a flight and one-night accommodation in Vancouver along with a professionally recorded and mixed CD of their stand-up act - not to mention the title of Canada's Next Top Comic.
The contest is one of many programs supported by XM Canada to help develop new Canadian talent in music and comedy.
