iPhone Said to Hit Chinese Mainland Market in July
AAPL | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL)'s iPhone is to officially hit the Chinese mainland market in July 2009, according to a Taiwanese report.
The mobile phone not only supports enhanced data rate for GSM Evolution (EDGE) but also supports 3G and related standards in the Mainland China, quoting the report.
China Mobile President Wang Jianzhou and China Unicom Board Chairman Chang Xiaobing recently disclosed that their companies were in talks about introducing the popular iPhone into the mainland.
After gaining the 3G license in early 2009, China Unicom contacted with Apple for several times but failed to reach an agreement.
In fact, the two parties kicked off negotiations as early as October 2008, but policy restriction and different business modes became barriers for them to reach agreements.
In March 2009, the telecom carrier was reported to have official talks with Apple again, in concert with its WCDMA commercial use.
