Olympians Anna Rice and Khalid Rusoke, now in Uganda on a fellowship of the pharmaceutical company, handed over $10,000 to a community based NGO -- Right To Play (RTP) at Naguru on Tuesday.
The NGO will utilise the funds under its Kampala project that covers Luwero, Lukuli, Hoima, Mukono, Naguru and Kasubi.
Rice and Rusoke also double up as RTP ambassadors. They are winding up their three-month fellowship that has had them conducting clinics at the NGO's projects.
Naguru Katale PS will have its playground improved. Salama School of the Blind in Mukono and Lubya Youth Power Development Agency in Kasubi will also benefit.
Rice, a Canadian badminton player, said she was moved by the vast sports talent in Uganda.
"The talent I have seen here has really shocked me," she observed. "I know what future world champions look like and I have seen some here," she added.
RTP communications coordinator Tadeo Atuhura underlined the NGO's goal of creating a safer and healthier world for children through sports.
RTP uses the power of sports to change the lives of children in the community. It is actively involved in over 300 schools throughout the country.
Rice and Rusoke (a Tanzanian swimmer) were among several athletes chosen at the Beijing Olympics by Johnson and Johnson for community work in several countries.
