Begun earlier this year, this initiative will involve the entire redesign of the Company's enterprise technology, including its enterprise framework, social media applications, and web assets. Our collaborative approach will enable Disaboom to integrate and customize the latest best-in-class social media and web delivery technology advances to provide a rich, engaging user experience - developed and refined through requirements gathering and an ongoing process of feedback from its own members.
"When we reached out to our community about helping us build Disaboom 2.0," notes Disaboom CEO John Walpuck, "we were overwhelmed by the level of the response, as well as by the diversity of experience of our member volunteers. Some of our volunteers have computer science degrees from leading universities around the United States. We also have many volunteers who are entrepreneurs, corporate executives and managers, and stay-at-home moms and dads who have a terrific grasp of what makes an online community a true community. Their perspective, experience, support, and desire for our success will be invaluable as we continue to evolve into a truly integrated community resource, social media platform, and publishing platform."
Disaboom 2.0 on the Horizon
The redesigned Disaboom 2.0 is scheduled to launch by mid-September 2009, while its companion site Disaboomjobs is scheduled to launch by mid-July 2009. While requirements gathering and initial development for the redesign began earlier this year, the Disaboom team and community members have been using a range of social media tools to establish the Disaboom 2.0 presence and outreach efforts (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, etc.) over the past few months, and continue to extend the reach of the Company's unique content (most recently: the Disability Scholarships Directory and the Directory of Disability Organizations). These and other efforts have been laying the groundwork for the Disaboom 2.0 initiative, which will include accessibility compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 (WCAG 2.0) and Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI).
Leading the redesign effort is Harry Brumleve, Disaboom Vice President of Engineering, who explains that the goals of the project are substantial. "Our primary objective is to dramatically enhance the user experience by simplifying navigation and substantially increasing site speed. Our members will find that there are many more opportunities to personalize their experience in the redesigned site - from tailoring their homepage to fit their interests and preferences, to joining member created groups with common interests or life experiences, to expressing themselves in our completely redesigned forums and blog sections. To achieve these goals, we are focused on delivering the greatest possible user experience to our members and groups at all times. This includes our totally re-architecting our existing social media applications. We believe our redesigned platform, social media applications, and web assets will significantly increase the value of Disaboom's content and community to our existing and future stakeholders, position us to respond much more quickly to new opportunities, and enable us to achieve greater monetization per redesigned page."
