Jun 11, 2009 -- Converted Organics Inc. (NASDAQ: COIN | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) announced today that the World Sports Alliance (WSA) notified the Company that the WSA and the African nation of the Republic of Guinea have agreed to utilize Converted Organics' High Temperature Liquid Composting (HTLC) technology and processes to produce organic fertilizer from food waste. The Republic of Guinea is the first of 24 WSA Member States to implement the WSA's Waste-to-Fertilizer program.

"As Chief Technology Partner to the WSA, Converted Organics is very pleased that our proprietary High Temperature Liquid Composting technology and related processes will play an integral role in the WSA's visionary Waste-to Fertilizer program," said Jack Walsdorf, Vice President of Waste Management for Converted Organics. "We are confident that other WSA Member States will follow the fine example set by the Republic of Guinea and embark upon a similar sustainable recycling effort."

Converted Organics' High Temperature Liquid Composting technology is a proven, state-of-the-art microbial digestion system that processes various biodegradable food waste products into liquid and solid organic-based fertilizer.

About World Sports Alliance

The World Sports Alliance is an intergovernmental organization created through a private initiative in support of the United Nations Millennium Project and its Development Goals.

About Converted Organics Inc.

Converted Organics, based in Boston, MA, is dedicated to producing high-quality, all-natural, organic soil amendment and fertilizer products through food waste recycling. The Company uses its proprietary High Temperature Liquid Composting (HTLC) system, a proven, state-of-the-art microbial digestion technology, to process various biodegradable food wastes into dry pellet and liquid concentrate organic fertilizers that help grow healthier food and improve environmental quality. Converted Organics sells and distributes its environmentally-friendly fertilizer products in the retail, professional turf management, and agribusiness markets.

Converted Organics' flagship manufacturing facility is located in Woodbridge, New Jersey. A second manufacturing site is located in Gonzales, California, and a third is under development in Johnston, Rhode Island. Converted Organics' products have been tested in numerous field trials for more than a dozen crops with the result that, on average, the net value of the farmer's crop increased 11-16 percent, depending on the particular crop and product application. This is due, in part, to the disease suppression characteristics of the product, which reduce or eliminate the need for other costly, often toxic, crop protection applications. In a number of lab and field trials, Converted Organics' liquid product has been shown to be effective in mitigating powdery mildew, a leaf fungus that affects most plants and grasses and restricts the flow of water and nutrients to the plant. Increased use of nitrogen in commercial agriculture and turf grass applications, such as on golf courses, has reduced the soil's ability to absorb nitrogen and other nutrients. Using the products produced by Converted Organics helps restore the soil by replenishing these micronutrients. This reduces the amount of nitrogen required in a virtuous cycle that benefits from long-term use. As a result, use of the product reduces chemical run-off to streams, ponds and rivers, an objective with significant long-term benefits to the environment.

Converted Organics' products have a long shelf life compared to many other organic fertilizers. The Company's fertilizer products can be used on a stand-alone basis or in combination with more traditional fertilizers and crop protection products. Converted Organics expects to benefit from increased regulatory focus on organic waste processing and on environmentally-friendly growing practices.

Jun 9, 2009 -- Jazz Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: JAZZ | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) announced today that data from the company's first Phase III clinical trial of sodium oxybate (JZP-6) for the treatment of fibromyalgia will be presented this week during the Associated Professional Sleep Societies (APSS) 2009 Annual Meeting in Seattle, Washington and also during the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) Congress in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Following are the details on each of these data presentations.

-- At APSS on June 10, 2009, Dr. Todd Swick will be presenting a poster entitled "Impaired Sleep and Daytime Functioning at Baseline in Subjects with Fibromyalgia: a 14-week Randomized, Double-blind, Placebo-controlled Trial of Sodium Oxybate" in the 10:15 am-12:15 pm poster session.

-- At APSS on June 11, 2009 at 9:00 am in Ballroom 6E, Dr. Swick will also deliver an oral presentation entitled "Sodium Oxybate Improves Pain, Fatigue, and Sleep in Fibromyalgia: Results from a 14-week Randomized, Double-blind, Placebo-controlled Study."

-- At EULAR on June 12, 2009, in Room C2 from 5:30-7:00 pm, Dr. I. Jon Russell will be presenting "Sodium Oxybate in the Treatment of Fibromyalgia" at a UCB-sponsored Symposium entitled: "Fibromyalgia: How Much More than Pain?" The symposium will be chaired by Dr. Ernest Choy and also features Dr. Gilles Lavigne and Dr.

Michael Spaeth as speakers.

Jazz Pharmaceuticals has completed a second Phase III pivotal clinical trial of JZP-6 and expects to announce top-line results from that study in mid-2009. Assuming positive results in the second study, the company anticipates submitting a New Drug Application for sodium oxybate for the treatment of fibromyalgia to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration by the end of 2009.

About Sodium Oxybate

Sodium oxybate is the sodium salt form of gamma-hydroxybutyrate, an endogenous neurotransmitter and metabolite of GABA. While the precise mechanism of action is unknown, the effects may be mediated in part through interaction with GABA(B) and GHB receptors. Sodium oxybate is the active ingredient in XYREM(R), approved by the FDA for the treatment of excessive daytime sleepiness and cataplexy (the sudden loss of muscle tone) in adult patients with narcolepsy. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends sodium oxybate as a standard of care for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration-approved indications. It is also approved by the European Medical Evaluation Agency for the treatment of narcolepsy with cataplexy in adult patients. Most commonly reported adverse drug reactions in narcolepsy patients are dizziness, nausea and headaches. Sodium oxybate has the potential to induce respiratory depression and neuropsychiatric events. Sodium oxybate has not been evaluated by regulators for the treatment of fibromyalgia and is not approved for this use.

About Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia, a chronic condition characterized by widespread pain, affects 0.5% - 5% of adults worldwide. Fibromyalgia is believed to be a central nervous system condition, resulting from neurological changes in how the brain perceives and responds to pain. In addition to pain, the main symptoms are fatigue, disturbed sleep and morning stiffness. The exact causes of fibromyalgia are unknown. It may be triggered by physical trauma, emotional stress, chronic pain or infection. Genetics, neurochemicals that affect pain modulation, neurohormones and sleep physiology abnormalities are thought to play a role. Research also has suggested a relationship between sleep and pain. Fibromyalgia patients experience a high prevalence of sleep problems, including a reduction in non-restorative or deep sleep.

Jun 9, 2009 -- Micro Imaging Technology, Inc. (OTCBB: MMTC | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) announced that it has received AOAC Research Institute (AOAC RI) Performance Test Method(TM) (PTM) certification for the MIT 1000 System's (System) identification of Listeria species (PTM Certificate Number 060901). Listeria are known to be the bacteria responsible for listeriosis, a rare but lethal food-borne infection that has a devastating case fatality rate of 25% (Salmonella, in comparison, has a less than 1% mortality rate). They are incredibly hardy and able to grow in temperatures ranging from 4 degreesC (39 degreesF), the temperature of a refrigerator, to 37 degreesC (99 degreesF), the body's internal temperature. Furthermore, listeriosis' deadliness can be partially attributed to the infection's ability to spread to the nervous system and cause meningitis.

AOAC RI's "expert reviewers" performed a thorough evaluation of MIT's PTM validation study report that included 81 bacterial identification (ID) tests and resulted in a 99% accuracy score with only one incorrect ID. In addition, 406 ruggedness tests were conducted to evaluate the System's flexibility should a user vary the test procedure from that specified by MIT. The PTM validation study report will be available for viewing on the AOAC RI Validated Methods web site (http://www.aoac.org/testkits/testedmethods.html). The study report will also be published in the Journal of AOAC INTERNATIONAL and a certification article will be published later this year in the AOAC Magazine, "Inside Laboratory Management."

The MIT 1000 System performs rapid and low cost microbial IDs in a process that is significantly different from all other ID methods as it does not rely on chemical or biological agents, conventional processing, fluorescent tags, gas chromatography or DNA analysis. The process is totally GREEN requiring only clean water and a sample of the unknown bacteria. Initially, the Company will target sales in the food industry where over $3 billion is spent in rapid ID testing annually and rising at nearly 10 percent per year.

John Ricardi, MIT's Vice President and COO, stated, "This Certification enables MIT to aggressively begin marketing its System into the targeted food safety markets. Following Listeria certification, MIT's next goal is to achieve PTM certifications for the ID of E.coli and Salmonella as these three bacteria are responsible for most of the food bacterial contamination events worldwide. Since the AOAC RI Test Protocols should be similar, our goal is to have these in place later this year. Additional microbes will be certified as required by the market."

"This is a significant milestone for the Company and its MIT 1000 System. We can now broaden our focus to include sales in parallel with continued product development that together, should accelerate growth and profitability," stated Michael Brennan, MIT's Chairman and CEO.

The AOAC Research Institute is a subsidiary of AOAC INTERNATIONAL and maintains an up-to-the minute list of certified Performance Tested Methods which have been independently tested, rigorously evaluated and thoroughly reviewed by the AOAC Research Institute and its expert reviewers.

About Micro Imaging Technology:

MIT is a California-based public company that has developed and patented a rapid microbial ID System that can revolutionize the pathogenic ID process and annually save thousands of lives and tens of millions of dollars. The System IDs bacteria in minutes, not days, and at a significant per test cost savings when compared to any conventional method. Revenues for all rapid testing methods exceed $5 billion annually -- with food safety accounting for over $3 billion -- having expanded at a rate of 9.2 percent annually since 1998. Current growth projections are at 30 percent annually with test demands driven by major health, safety and homeland security issues.

The System is laser and optically based and uses the proven principles of light scattering in conjunction with proprietary PC-based software algorithms to ID microbes and create a proprietary database. MIT, through independent testing, has proven the ability with high accuracy to ID the most dangerous and pervasive pathogens: E. coli, Listeria, Salmonella, and Staphylococcus aureus (a.k.a. Staph) and twenty (20) other species of bacterium.

The MIT 1000 System has numerous ID applications including food quality control, clinical diagnostics, pharmaceutical quality assurance, semiconductor processing control and water quality monitoring. MIT has chosen to focus initial efforts on food quality control as recent events have created an urgent demand for quicker and cheaper testing -- demands that will promote a high-value return on any investment in MIT's technology.
