That holds true for eBay as well, which has not experienced further growth declines since February, Donahoe told The Wall Street Journal in a story published Saturday.
"In terms of the underlying fundamentals, I don't see the economy as broken," Donahoe said. "In terms of the consumer, I'm cautiously optimistic."
EBay has cut 10 percent of its staff -- 1,600 workers -- since last October to "get our cost structure in place," Donahoe said of eBay's e-commerce marketplace, which includes online actions, a fixed-price store and separate classifieds.
EBay has yet to decide the future of its Kijiji online-classifieds brand in the United States. Kijiji may be merged into the eBay brand because more consumers are using search engines to find what they need, regardless of brand or sales format, Donahoe said.
"Our perspective is that our own search will be able to come together over the next three to five years and bring a more seamless experience" to shopping across a variety of formats, he said.
