The man told her he would be released if she wired the money via Western Union. When there was no contact after she wired the money, she called Ottawa police, who said she had been defrauded. The scam comes weeks after a 93-year-old Plainfield-area man was targeted in a similar ruse, according to sheriff's department reports.
