"United We Serve is a call for all of us to make volunteering and community service part of our daily lives and the life of our nation," said President and CEO of Citi Foundation Pam Flaherty. "Citi employees have been dedicating their free time to community service projects for many years and President Obama has now inspired them to do even more to help revive the economy and create a strong foundation for the future."
First Lady Michelle Obama officially kicks off United We Serve today in San Francisco. The initiative will span 81 days until the National Day of Service and Remembrance on September 11, which was created by the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act this spring. Starting today, Citi employees will partake in community events around the country. These events include:
-- June 22nd - Citi representation at the United We Serve national kick-off event.
-- June 22nd - Two Citi employees participating in NY Habitat for Humanity build with U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Ray LaHood.
-- August 22nd - Partnership with Habitat for Humanity, the New York Mets and Citi employees to build a home in the parking area of Citi Field. Members of the 1969 Amazin' Mets will join Citi volunteers to build the home.
In conjunction with this announcement, Citi has launched a video featuring employees encouraging Americans to volunteer this summer.
