Vernon replaces Rick Searer, who will be retiring at the end of September.
In his new role Vernon will report to Irene Rosenfeld, chairman and CEO, and become a member of the Kraft Foods Executive Team.
Vernon most recently was with Ripplewood Holdings. Prior to that he was with Johnson & Johnson.
