PowerRating -- The Dutch Hosting Providers Association (DHPA) has drafted a new set of
regulations governing energy use and the 'greening' of data centres.
The 19 members are seeking to find 'green' energy and cool new data
centres in an environmentally friendly fashion. The association is also
looking to further use virtualisation in order to boost data centre
capacity. Taxing energy use and offering flexible work are also seen as
tools towards the goals of the association. The DHPA wants to get rid
of the idea that energy use will grow unchecked at data centres.
Alongside internet autonomous growth, companies are outsourcing more to
server parks, pushing energy use down at companies. DHPA members
include BIT, Bluedome, Cyso Managed Hosting, Denit Hosting Solutions,
Glidepath, Intermax, Interoute, IS Interned Services, KPN, Leaseweb,
Multrix, NXS, PINS, Rackspace, Siennax, Proserve, Parentix, Terremark
and WideXS/Ion-IP. The members and their goals are being supported by
many including Dell, Cisco, IBM, Microsoft, Novell, Sun Microsystems,
F5, VM-ware and ECP.nl AcaeaEURoe the platform for eNetherlandsform.
