Things have gotten so much better that this year Humana Inc., a health benefits company and Taste of Chicago sponsor, has put together 13 different three-course meals (appetizer, entree, dessert) totaling 1,000 calories or fewer.
For example, you could start with corn on the cob at O'Brien's, add some chicken tacos from La Justicia and finish with mango Italian ice from Mazzone's. Or start with C'est Si Bon's fruit cup, segue to Polo Cafe's baked shark Veracruz and end with Celebration Creamery's strawberry cheesecake frozen yogurt sandwich.
You can download a map showing the Humana Healthier Choices sites at humana.com/tasteofchicago, or pick one up at the Humana Senior Dining Pavilion (100 yards or so north of Buckingham Fountain) or at the Humana booth on the east side of Columbus Drive, between Congress and Jackson Drives.
Participating food vendors submitted nutritional information, which then was examined by Humana's panel of health and wellness experts.
