The Associated Press said, "Blankenship recently started using the popular online social networking tool Twitter."
"Mr. Blankenship believes there are many issues facing West Virginians and America that merit relevant thought," said Massey spokesperson Jeff Gillenwater. "Twittering is a way to communicate concisely with numerous people."
Mr. Blankenship plans to focus his Tweets on issues broadly affecting the American economy, worker and environment. For instance, Blankenship wrote Monday that he wishes surface mining protesters understood there are more important issues such as diseases and poverty.
Mr. Blankenship's Twitter profile can be found at twitter.com/donblankenship.
