'O2 UK expands mobile broadband, upgrades software'

Jun 29, 2009 (DMEUROPE via COMTEX) -- SBUX | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- O2 UK has signed a deal to expand its mobile broadband service by giving customers access to the Wi-Fi hotspot network of BT Openzone. The alliance coincides with the launch of O2's upgraded Mobile Broadband Connection Manager software. Existing customers can upgrade their software and benefit from wider Wi-Fi access from 29 June. New customers will automatically get the new software and BT Openzone Wi-Fi access from late-July. The deal with BT Openzone offers an additional 3,000 hotspots, including most branches of Starbucks. The upgraded Connection Manager software will automatically copy existing Wi-Fi profiles from a customer's laptop into Connection Manager during the initial installation process. This will allow users to connect to their home and business broadband wireless networks without having to manually install security codes. The upgraded software also has a data counter for users to monitor and control data consumption. It will send automatic notification to customers when they reach 75 percent, 90 percent and 100 percent of their data allowance.
