From 2000 to 2005, Mr Shreiber served as president and CEO of Tetra Pak, a provider of packaging systems and equipment for food products.
Mr Shreiber succeeds Philip Lippincott, who retired from the board in November 2008 after 24 years of service. With Mr Shreiber's election, the Campbell board will consist of 16 members, of whom Douglas Conant, Campbell's president and CEO, is the only director who is not independent.
Harvey Golub, chairman of Campbell Soup, said: "Nick's global experience and knowledge of the food and packaging industries will complement our board. We look forward to adding another accomplished business leader to our board."
