WILG | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- While the Buffalo Wild Wings under construction on Mall Drive is pushing forward to a July opening, Mike Cook with C-J Stone Construction said that work continues on the McAlister's Deli location next door.
"Work is continuing and it should be open soon," Cook said.
The McAlister's Deli home office in Ridgeland, Miss., has not returned a request for information about the Las Cruces store, but the company's Web page -- www.mcalistersdeli.com -- reports that Las Cruces is one of three places to soon get a new restaurant.
McAlister's Deli was founded in 1989 in Oxford, Miss., and offers sandwiches, soup and salads.
Guzman closes University location
Gary Guzman reports that he has recently closed his Color Your World Garden Center on University Avenue because his lease ran out.
"The land got sold and we knew this coming, we were prepared for that," Guzman said.
He said that all seven employees at the University location have been able to keep their jobs working at the remaining store at 540 N. Telshor Blvd.
The Color Your World Garden Center is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. More information can be found at www.guzmansgreenhouse.com.
Wal-Mart construction could start next year
Work could start next year on the new Wal-Mart Supercenter that is set to be built on the East Mesa.
That's the news from Donnie Brainard, founder and president of Alameda Property Group. He
said via e-mail that, "They are indicating that they will start construction next year."
Brainard, though, said he plans to soon meet with Wal-Mart's real estate director to discuss the possibility of moving up the construction to the end of this year.
In September of 2007, Brainard announced that his company had completed the sale of 25 acres to Wal-Mart Stores at the southwest corner of Rinconada Boulevard and Northrise Drive, just off U.S. 70, on the east side of Las Cruces.
Focused Fitness opens doors
Mel McLaughlin and her partners Melissa Nelson and Amanda Kuker started teaching fitness in space provided by a church, but then decided to expand the business.
Now, Focused Fitness is located at 705 N. Main St.
"We started this about a year and half ago and we started to look around for a location and we found it," McLaughlin said. "I've been doing this for over 20 years as fitness instructor and trainer."
She said Focused Fitness started accepting customers in February and has a grand opening celebration scheduled for Aug. 15.
"The way that it works is there are no contracts for anything, people pay by session or they can pay for a month or pay for three months or pay for a year," McLaughlin said.
Focused Fitness offers fitness classes and personal training and massage therapy also sells supplements. The phone number for Focused Fitness is (575) 621-4643.
