The company said it initiated the scholarship fund in 2007, eventually contributing $2.5 million, and the cities of Dallas and Fort Worth raised $1.25 million more. Chesapeake said its share came from the development of natural gas reserves at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport by the Oklahoma City-based producer and its minority partners.
The Community Foundation of North Texas administers the scholarships in the Fort Worth area.
The winners were announced at the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport's regular board meeting.
They include: Damilola Adeyeye, Paschal High School, Fort Worth; Irene Sanchez, Western Hills High School, Fort Worth; Mar'shala Spivey, James Madison High School, Dallas; Rene Barelas and Anacleto Contreras, both of Adamson High School, Dallas; Shelby Kimber, North Dallas High School. No school affiliation was available for these students: Jose Posada-Triana, Matthew Williams, Erica Jimenez-Flores, Vanessa Tonche, Elizabeth Villegas-Cedillo, Ivette Salas, Pauline Romero, Jasmine Young, David Rios and Elizabeth Patino.
