Sgt. Paul Schnell said Saturday that the ruckus was "some flare-up, just related to team differences, that kind of stuff," that ended up spilling into the street.
About 1,000 people were at the game, and police quickly dispersed about 200 when they arrived at the scene, Schnell said. Extra patrols were called in, but Schnell said that's common for any type of disturbance.
There were no injuries.
As a precaution, police will provide extra security for today's 5 p.m. game, Schnell said.
