The site, named Love Japan, is slated for activation on July 27 and will be the first of its kind in the country. Users will be able to select from incumbents and candidates from the eight major political parties, including the ruling Liberal Democratic Party and the opposition Democratic Party of Japan.
Contributions as low as 1,000 yen (US$10.55) and as high as 1.5 million yen can be made at a time. The service will initially be available only to holders of the Rakuten KC credit card.
Each contribution will incur a fee that will be paid by the receiving politician or the candidate's funding organization. Contributions will take three to four months to reach their destination.
