MDPA | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Metropolitan Health Networks, Inc. announced that it has selected eClinicalWorks unified electronic medical records (EMR) and practice management (PM) solution for its nine internal medicine offices in South and Central Florida.

The company said that the EMR will equip Metcare physicians with paperless patient information that can be securely accessed anytime, anywhere.

Commenting on the selection of eClinicalWorks, William H. McCoy III, M.D., Associate Medical Director and EMR project leader for Metcare, said, "After a comprehensive ten-month review process conducted by a diverse committee of our healthcare professionals, eClinicalWorks' EMR/PM solution emerged as the best and most cost-effective system for our practices. We expect full system implementation to take approximately 18 months."

McCoy continued, "With EMR as a foundation, we foresee a day when a Metcare customer can be seen anywhere in the State of Florida where Metcare has an office and have instant and secure access to a complete medical record. We expect that making patient information immediately available to our physicians will improve the quality and safety of the healthcare we provide. In addition, it is anticipated that our clinical efficiency and cost effectiveness will be increased by eliminating redundant diagnostic procedures, such as imaging and blood work."

eClinicalWorks' EMR solution provides the ability to manage patient flow, access patient records in-house or remotely, communicate electronically with referring physicians, and send secure consult notes and clinical data. Users can easily access and review complete patient histories, including past visits, current medications, allergies, labs, and charts. The system will also help with reporting and clinical guidelines, and provide patient information, including problem lists, allergies, medication history, and lab results. Unified with the EMR is the eClinicalWorks Practice Management system, designed to streamline the medical billing process.

The move to paperless patient information is in keeping with Metcare's transformation from a traditional healthcare delivery model to a Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) model. The PCMH healthcare model has drawn federal government and widespread media attention as a way to improve patient satisfaction and healthcare quality, promote prevention, and add value to the customer.

"We are delighted to have Metcare select eClinicalWorks's EMR/PM, especially with the Patient-Centered Medical Home model promising to play a significant role in the future of healthcare delivery," said Girish Kumar Navani, CEO and co-founder of eClinicalWorks. "Our technology and experience working with customers for chronic care and preventative care management will make the transition to a prevention-oriented EMR as seamless as possible. This serves as a validation to our vision in this area."

Metropolitan Health Networks, Inc. is a healthcare organization that provides healthcare services for Medicare Advantage members and other patients in Florida.

eClinicalWorks is a privately held company engaged in the ambulatory clinical systems market.
